Lactate Pro Portable Lactate Analyzer

Blood lactate measurement is used by sport scientists, coaches and athletes to accurately determine Heart Rate training zones, recovery and much more.  Lactate is a metabolic product that can be measured by taking a drop of blood at a finger tip the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar level.  The blood lactate level increases with exercise intensity and shows clearly the transition from aerobic to anaerobic activity.  Since the measurement is completely individual it gives a precise method for testing and monitoring training intensity and recovery.  Lactate measurement is far more precise than the outdated and inaccurate method of using percentages of maximum heart rate to set training zones.  Because heart rate is an individual response, heart rate training zones need to be determined by measurement of physiological variables not set by mathematical formulas.  Furthermore, the relationship between exercise intensity and heart rate is different for different exercises, eg. heart rates for running will not be the same as heart rates for cycling for any given intensity.  Training programs should not be based on general heart rate guidelines rather they should be based on individual responses.  This can be achieved through lactate testing.  How much guesswork are you willing to involve in your training and how much time have you got to waste?  Do you want to make sure that what you do works optimally for you?  Do you want to make the most of the time that you have available?  Now you can optimize and take the guesswork out of your training by using the Lactate Pro.

The Lactate Pro is the meter of choice (world wide) of elite teams and sport scientists both for monitoring athlete training and for sport research.  In North America it is used heavily by the USA and Canadian National Ski and Swim teams and has been featured in "Runner's World Magazine", "Triathlete Magazine" and on "The Lance Chronicles".

The Lactate Pro is fully approved by the FDA and is the only lactate test system that is classified as a Waived test by CLIA. The Lactate Pro is the only portable lactate analyzer to be validated for medical use in the USA (extensive clinical trial was carried out at the Harvard Children's Hospital in Boston).

Most popular Lactate Analyzer in the world; 12,000 delivered world wide as of January, 2006.

Collect the Blood
Blood is Aspirated
Measurement Displayed
Insert the test strip into the strip inlet of the meter.
Collection of the blood.
Blood is automatically aspirated and measurement begins.
The measurement result is displayed in 60 seconds.

With only 5 microL of blood and simple operation,
Lactate Pro provides accurate blood lactate level in 60 seconds.

Lactate Pro adopts the electrochemical measurement method utilizing enzyme reaction.  The operation has been further simplified.  As little as 5 microL (approximately 2mm diameter drop) of blood is enough for a measurement.  Furthermore, the wiping of excess blood and other troublesome preparation are not required.  Measurements are completed in a mere 60 seconds.  The automatic aspiration of blood greatly reduces the risk of human error, and thus provides accurate blood lactate level without involving any manual operation.

FDA Approved, CLIA Waived

The Lactate Pro test system is the only Lactate measurement system to achieve Waived Status under the US FDA Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.  In the regulations, waived tests are defined as simple laboratory examinations and procedures that are cleared by the Food and Drug Administration for home use; employ methodologies that are so simple and accurate as to render the likelihood of erroneous results negligible. (FDA-CLIA Listing)

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulate all testing on specimens that are removed from the human body for US patients.  The Lactate Pro is categorized as a waived test under the CLIA.  Facilities that perform waived testing  must have a current CLIA certificate of waiver and follow the manufacturer's instructions for performing the test.  Waived tests do not have any CLIA personnel requirements nor are they inspected on a routine basis.

However, the Accusport is categorized as a moderately complex test under the CLIA regulations.  Moderate complexity CLIA tests are subject to standards for registration, proficiency testing [42 CFR 493. 801 through 493.865], patient test management [42 CFR 493.1101 through 493.1111], quality control [42 CFR 493.1201 through 492.1202], personnel [42 CFR 493.1403 through 493.1425], and quality assurance [42 CFR 493.1701 through 493.1721]. Facilities performing moderate complexity tests are surveyed every two years.  The minimum testing personnel qualification for a moderate complexity test is having earned a high school degree or equivalent.

There may also be State requirements that are applicable to laboratory testing in those States that have a separate State laboratory licensure program (i.e., California, Florida, etc.).

The CLIA regulations can be viewed from the following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Internet Site: http://www.phppo.cdc.gov/clia/regs/toc.asp

Study at Australian Institute of Sport confirms that the Lactate Pro is easier to use and more accurate than the Accusport.

High data precision of C.V. 3% satisfies the need of clinical testing.

With the high repeatability of C.V. 3%, "Lactate Pro" is able to be used not only in physical training but is also useful for clinical testing.  Thus, "Lactate Pro" provides reliably precise data equivalent to that of large-scale testing equipment and also maintains good correlation with conventional lactate test meters.
